Do I need my own bowling ball to bowl in a league?
No, but it is the single biggest improvement most bowlers make. A house ball is drilled for an average hand, not yours, and it is plastic, so it will not hook. Most league bowlers see their average climb within a few weeks of getting a fitted ball.
How much does bowling ball drilling cost in Visalia?
It depends on the ball and the layout your game needs, so call the shop for a quote. Drilling, custom fitting, plugging and re-drilling are all done in-house.
What is a PAP, and do you measure it?
Yes, we measure it as part of every fitting. PAP stands for Positive Axis Point: the spot on the ball that sits at the centre of your axis of rotation as it rolls. It is personal to you and it is what a layout is measured from. Drill a ball without knowing it and the pin and weight-block placement are guesswork, which is why the same ball can work brilliantly for one bowler and do nothing for another.
How do you find my PAP?
We watch the ball come off your hand and read the oil track it leaves, then measure from the track to the axis. It takes a few throws with a fitting ball and it is included in a fitting, not charged as an extra. Bring the ball you currently throw if you have one, since the track on it tells us a lot before you roll anything.
How long does drilling take?
Most drilling is done the same evening, often while you wait. Plug-and-redrill work needs two to three days because the plug has to cure fully before it can be re-drilled.
What weight bowling ball should I use?
The old rule of ten percent of body weight caps out around 15 pounds for most adults. Comfort and control matter far more than weight. We will hand you a few to feel before you decide.
Do you service bowlers outside Visalia?
Yes. We regularly see bowlers from Tulare, Hanford, Porterville, Exeter, Dinuba and across the Central Valley. Call ahead on Friday or Saturday since those are by appointment.
